Welcome to our Website. This site contains information on our society, and historical information on Markyate, a Hertfordshire village.

The Society was formed in May 1990. The society holds meetings with local speakers, between September and December, and February and May. There have also been visits to local houses and to local museums. Exhibitions are usually held twice yearly, a major one in the autumn, and a smaller one at the village's May Day Fayre.

Publications are considered very important by the society. To this end the society's Journal Markyate's Past is published once a year, and the society's newsletter The Gate is published several times a year. Also, the Book of Markyate was published in 2002.
